Question Louver window replacement

Can anyone tell me where I might find replacement glass for the louver type windows found on the early '60s Flying Clouds and Safaris? Thanks.

Louver window replacement

Greetings 63flyingcloud!

There isn't anything unusual about the glass utilized in the jalousie windows in your 1963 FlyingCloud. So long as you have the spring retainers, any copetent glass shop should be able to cut a replacement pane when provided with the proper dimensions. You might want to consider a more modern tempered glass as the original was standard window glass if it is like my '64 Overlander.

Thanks, Kevin. Jalousie windows! You learn a new word everyday with this new hobby!

My glass looks to be an auto safety glass (some kind of plastic sandwiched between glass). The problem that developed is that where one window overlaps and touches the next, the glass is discolored (as if the plastic in the middle of the "sandwich" has melted). Perhaps this area was subject to greater heat.

Anyway, thanks for the info--I'll try a good glass shop.

Louver window replacement

Greetings 63flyingcloud!

It does sound like you may have a "safety glass" product in your jalousie windows. Mine and most of the others that I have seen, have standard, non-tempered window glass in the side jalousied windows. The tempered safety glass is a plus from a safety standpoint, but it sounds like it is behaving like automotive safety glass of similar age - - bubbling and separating - - I know that the vent-panes and one side window on my '65 Dodge are starting to bubble and separate. I still believe that a competent glass shop should be able to help with replacements - - especially if you can provide an original window pane to use as a pattern (and to match the glass composition <thickness> as closely as possible).
