?How to Remove Inner glass?

Ok, I used the search function and could not find the thread about removing the inner glass in order to scrape off the deteriorating tint. It seems like there was something about taping the window first.... Anyway, the tint on the windows of my Safari has deterorated so much the windows are brown. It's very unsightly from the outside and really affects the view looking out. Yeah, yeah, I could say it was a result of the fire the trailer was exposed to on the movie set....except the windows looked burnt before the trailer was heat damaged.

It seems like a really scary thing to try to break the inner panes just to scrape the brown stuff off. How many others here have done it? Is it difficult? And, most important was it worth it? Could you tell a difference in how hot/cold the inside of the trailer got without the second pane of glass?

No matter how you do it I will guarantee th sat you will never get all the glass cleaned up. The glass turns into a million gad zillion little balls which each have a life of their own and fine their way into places that are unimaginable. After saying all this yes it is worth the effort but I would sell the trailer.

Many owners simply replace the windows, and be done with it.

That is much easier than trying to fix the original window.

inner glass

I have a similar problem with my 73 Sov 31'. Replacing the windows would be nice....but if your like me I like to stretch the money as far as I can. I have found on my AS the inside windows are plexi. I do not believe they were replacements, and am wondering if that was original in 73s. In any case, I believe with the inside window shell removed I might find the windows seperate and the glass window can be cleaned of the old film. We will see!

Andy, good to see you on the Forums--maybe I've just missed your other posts.

However, being hardheaded and a believer that VAC members ought to know how to fix anything, I'm going to try and fix the windows on my '75 Sovereign, even if it requires alchemy. If anyone is sucessful in getting these dual pane windows apart, I hope they take lots of photos and creat a thread.

By the way, I've got some spare side windows to trade if anyone has a single pane rear window for my '70 Caravel.

inner window

Had some luck on mine you might wish to try. Removed first of many windows from my 73 and found after removing the window sleeve the inside plexi seperates nicely. Only half the problem as I have no clue as to how to extract the small fixed windows....but will cross that bridge later. Was much easier than I expected, but breaking loose the old screws takes wd40 and patience.

I believe you're dealing with single pane windows. The real trial is the dual paines, introduced in 1975.
