Has Anybody ever tinted the windows on a vintage Airstream??

Hi all,

I have a 1968 Sovereign with the original windows intact, but even with the curtains it a little bright so my wife wants to know if they can be tinted.. I don\t know if they can so I am asking you all.. Do you know if you can tint the Corning glass without causing a problem? thanks in advance..

I tinted the windows in our 63 with limo tint. The Corning windows should be easier to tint, as they have no frames.

We tinted all our windows with tint we picked up at Lowes.

I had one small window below a big one on the front curbside of my Excella 500. It was not covered by a curtain so I bought the dark tinting which has a mirror look on the outside. I could look out but it was very hard to look in.

My 68 had tinted windows, I didnt like the way it kept the light out. I ended up takeing it off.

I am in the midst of tinting the windows on our '69 Sovereign. It is something that can test your patience, but hopefully it will work out. I did one window (kitchen) yesterday. I am using the highest reflective and heat blocking type. We camp in mostly really hot areas and I am trying to minimize the heat inside the trailer.

If your model does not have window frames, that certainly is an advantage. On mine the biggest challenge is to keep the dirt and trash that hides in the cracks around the frame to glass connection from "backwashing" under the edges of the film and making bumps in the film.

Another challenge is (for me) the fact that the windows have a slight curve. That curve seems to keep the film from sticking easily to the glass. I found that the squeegee needs to be flexible enough to bend to the curve of the glass but stiff enough to really press the film to the glass.

Concord window film is the brand that I purchased and they have a very informative web site. Pictoral instructions.

Man! getting those windows to turn loose from the groove at the top and then reassembly is also a bummer.

I'll start window number 2 tomorrow.
