The hehr standard windows don't use spline, so how do you get it to stay in?

Steel or bronze, but not aluminum or plastic

I own a 1956 Airstream and am currently rebuilding the windows. I can guarantee plastic screening and aluminum screening do not work.

Steel screen is still available and is your best choice. It is original, strong and will last a long, long time. Also, besides bronze (which is quite expensive), it is the only screen that works without a spline.

Strong is important with these windows since you have to completely remove them to replace the screen.

Steve....did you get my email about the Hehr Standards?

Hehr screening

We have installed solar sreen material in the old Hehr windows for years.

Just delivered another old Airstream with the Hehr windows, that we installed solar screening in. Customer loves it, as they have in the past.

Like they say in Brooklyn, no problemo.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

We also do many other things, "that can't be done", and have for years.

How?

Do you add a spline or a separate (new) screen frame? Any pics?

Shari.

We have installed solar screening in older Airstreams that had hehr windows, for years.

We have given probably hundreds of answers of how to do somethings, on the phone as well as the Forums.

How we install that screening, we consider proprietary, therefore we will have to pass on this one.

As you know, we do many things where others say "it can't be done," only to be taken to task by a select few, that "DEMANDED" answers and photo's.

I started doing some of the "can't be done" things, in 1970, and yes, even when Airstream said it can't be done, and will continue to do so, as long as I can.

Airstream said a "crash" book for Airstreams, was impossible to write. After reviewing what I wrote some 38 years ago, they finally admitted that it can be done, and has been in use, successfully, for these 38 years.

So we apologize to you, for not providing a detailed answer to your question.

We are sure that you understand our position.

Andy

Doesn't matter to me...we've already replaced ours - exactly as they were originally, with galvanized screen.

Just thought others may want to know.

I couldn't imagine replacing it with anything less durable than the original. The solar shade stuff will rip easy.

Screening for the Vintage group

I searched for screening that was correct for the old frames.....1947 era. I found a whole box of bronze, yep.... real bronze, screening. Original to the old Travel trailers and fits real nice into the older screen frames. Any of you 50's and 40's types who want some...let me know. When its gone, its gone. Looks so much nicer than galvanized.

That sounds sweet. I found (after a long search) someone that procured me some STAINLESS steel screen. It, too, looks nice, and makes sense in areas that are prone to humidity/moisture (bath, galley, etc.).The one downside it that I put it over the gaucho and now, when towing, the shine limits my view through the trailer.
