In my 71 Caravel I spider webbed the front swing out window. I would rather not discuss how to much. I really don't want to relive the trauma. I did it by being dumb

It happens from time to time!

Anyway, since it is a basic flat square piece of glass should I use the local glass company?

Should I remove the frame and take it to them or maybe have them do it in my yard?

Maybe I should just hook up and take it to their location?

What ya'll think?

If you are not going to replace the window with your own hands, I would take the trailer to the glass shop.

I replaced several windows on our Caravel myself, and broke one putting it in, an easy thing to do. I think I measured a little too close, and the window was a little larger than it had to be, and one side was over the edge it is supposed to go into, and I broke it, so had to buy another.

If the guy at the glass company makes such an error, he will have to make it good, not you.

Was it a sashless window? That is, did it have an aluminum frame around it? If so, you may have trouble getting the sash apart without ruining it. If you do mangle it up, you can try either an RV salvage yard or Airstream dealer for a replacement.

It does have an aluminum frame that I could remove. Getting the 2 inside lift bars disconnected is a bit of a challenge.

Depending, your lift arms will have either a nut (I think it's 1/2" hex) or a clip holding them. If it's a clip, simply pop off the clip, try to save them for comparison for replacement. After that, drop the arms off and lift the bottom of the window waaay up until the J hinge drops out of the channel and falls on your head.

When it's time for it to go back in, a helper is a good idea, as is a plastic or rubber mallet to tap the J hinge back into the channel without breaking it.
