Danger Will Robinson! invisible windows

Watch out! When the windows are open on the AS, at certain angles they are nearly invisible. I just walked into one, ouch, son of a gun! Watch the video, especially if you are a newbie like me.

Well, you're not the first person to do that, it's a pretty common problem. On one of our first trips out someone walked into our open side window. Now I either open them very little (so they are close to the side of the trailer) or very much (so they are above people's heads when they walk by), or put our slip-on awnings on them so people can see them easier!

Get yourself a pool noodle, cut some chunks and slice them. Become disciplined about using them. Sorry about the bruise... been there, done that. Ice and beer both help

I always put out the rear awning by default when that window is open to prevent me from doing that.

Not really a problem on my Safari. My old Bambi II windows would draw blood.

I literally just bonked my head on the edge of an open window this weekend. Said things I'm not proud of. Lost a little skin. Really wished I had purchased noodles for all the windows....ouch!!!

Hubby's head required ice packs and gash treatment. We used frozen peas and hemostatic powder for his incident. I am getting noodles

Welcome to the forum!

About aluma-ice... not a real product. But you could make this. That is a bag of aluminum BBs and I added a label.

If you make em and sell em and get filthy rich, please send me a complimentary bag

Agreed. As a new AS owner and before we even had a chance to take it out, I walked into the back window, which was up half way. I suggested to my wife that we either open the potentially offending windows a little or all of the way up. However, I like the foam noodle idea as well. Perhaps in a day-glow color.

By the way, my wife's head has come in contact with the cabinets above our rear, twin beds a few times. I added a self-stick, 1/2" rubber, insulation strip on the bottom of the doors. That should soften any future blows to the head.

Too funny! I immediately starting searching where to buy AlumaIce then caught on. So, is it a prank too that it's not better than frozen peas - wouldn't want to waste some good ammunition or space in the freezer!

What, only once? I get it a couple times per trip. Invisible windows and a ball cap on a bald head make for bumps and profanity.

It doesn't help that the slope of the ground can lull you into a false sense of security! For example, if you have to raise the street side of the camper, then open the windows, you'll be used to them being higher up. Next trip, you had to raise the curb side, and you'll be walking around and BAM - Where'd that come from? Oh, right.

Someone would need to test I guess. If it's good, imagine the opportunity. heck you could even make aluminum ice cubes for high end whiskeys and sell them as a "must have" for new Airstreamers.

Pink flamingoes - check
Awning lights - check
Air Flag - check
AlumaIce - check

Yes, the rear overheads on a twin can be brutal. I've learned to avoid them, but my wife hasn't yet.
