Curved Window 1983 Airstream 310

I am looking to replace a broken drivers' side window on a 1983 Airstream 310, 31' Class A.

I live in the Bay Area and have been unsuccessful in finding a glasier to custom make the window, or in finding an old replacement window.

Those windows are no longer available.

You must remove the frame, then remove the center bar. Then you can install Lexan since it's a fixed window.

Takes about 4 hours.

Has anyone developed a good window screen for the front cockpit windows, we now have a kitten travelling with us and would feel much safer having a screen when on the road

A screen would not be practical since you would be putting over a drivers slider window. There is no track for it.

You could however, get some screen material and install snaps on it and the window framing. You could then snap it off and on as need be.

That at least would give you, granted, not a perfect solution, but perhaps one that would solve your problem.

Thanks for your advice...question - do I have to get the Lexan custom designed, and who would do that type of work? Would you suggest that over getting a new window custom-designed & installed?

The cost to get a custom tempered glass window that has a very special double contour would be outrageous.

The complete window frame must be removed. You do that by drilling out all the rivets. Then the center bar must be removed. It is held in place with screws at the top and bottom, and they cannot be reached unless the complete winow is off the motorhome.

At that point, Lexan can be cut and installed.

However, it is doubtful that the 23 year old gasket is any good, therefore it will need to be replaced. The replacement gasket must closely match the original, or you will have created a water leak if not.

I suggest you take the coach to a dealer that knows how to do that job. They must know how to remove the complete frame, remove the center bar, and how to remove the rusted screws without damaging the frame, cut the Lexan to fit, install the window with a new gasket, remount the center bar, and probably install the other three gaskets for the slider window since it will be out, reinstall the window, using vulkem sealer along with Olympic rivets, then trimming the rivets down.

Lastly, if the window frame is painted Charcoal, it will need to be refinished.

I would suggest you get your insurance company involved, since that repair will cost several hundred dollars.

Be extremely careful which dealer you chose.

That job could take most of the day.
