Best choice for replacement screening

The screens on my 75 Sovereign are yellowed and brittle, might be a spring
project to replace them.
Anyone have favorite materials. I see several types of fiberglass available
Grey, Black, Green????
Also what size is the spleen that holds it in???

Fiberglass in black would be my choice. It reflects less light and thus is more invisible when looking out. Don't know about the spline size.

If the old spline is in reasonable condition (like the original one on our 1974 Sov) just use it again.

Black fiberglass is good, I used a shade screen material on a couple of mine. IIRC it is a 3/32" spline but don't hold me to that. I would take a piece of the old spline with me and get a match. A couple of things I learned... the old spline will be too short, it has drawn up over time. It works best to install the new screen while the frame is mounted to the wall, otherwise you will get wrinkles in it because of the curvature of the wall.

The original spline on our '74 was just fine for replacing the screen. It is flexible, remember. No problem re-using it, but it's your money.

We found that to avoid wrinkles just took getting over a learning curve. It was fairly easy to do, once we had a few behind us. The key is to have the same tension in both directions. You may have to pull out some spline to correct a problem or two at first, but you will soon be an expert.

We found that it was better to take off the screen frame; it made cleaning the frame up a lot easier, and you could work on it in a comfortable position.
