The original spline on our '74 was just fine for replacing the screen. It
is flexible, remember. No problem re-using it, but it's your money.
We found that to avoid wrinkles just took getting over a learning curve. It was fairly easy to do, once we had a few behind us. The key is to have the same tension in both directions. You may have to pull out some spline to correct a problem or two at first, but you will soon be an expert.
We found that it was better to take off the screen frame; it made cleaning the frame up a lot easier, and you could work on it in a comfortable position.
Have fun doing it!
