Awning window arms bent?

To the Great, All-Knowing, and Remarkably Good-Natured Spirits of Airforums that you be, this may sound like a dumb question, but I'll ask it because I'm in Mexico with no Airstreams to compare this new-to-me trailer to :

At first, I thought all the arms on my windows were bent by an over-enthusiastic window closer from outside, but they all seem to be bent in the same way. Of course the windows don't open and close easily, it really takes two people to operate them, one inside and one outside. That's partly because some of these arms are bent from side to side as well as up and down like this one is, right next to the window frame.


Do all AS models of this vintage (1982 34' Limited) have this kind of window?

And if they are unusually bent, what are my options? What are they made of?

Usually bending them towards each other will help with locking the window in place. You would move the levers up and down and gently push them away from each other to lock them. There are detents that are sometimes hard to find. A little silicone spray will help. If the arms are really bent, you can remove them and bend them back straight. Removing the screen might help you figure out how they work and with that knowledge you will be able to get them to open and close more easily. A little lubrication will help them lock into place. The knobs can be removed by removing the little screw with an electric screw driver and the correct bit. I have seen Phillips and slot head screws in those little knobs. The Phillips head is the easiest to work with. There is a captive nut in one knob and a screw in the other. You can also remove the window by removing the arms and opening the window to about 90 degrees and it will come out of the slot at the top.

My 81 has the same windows.

Thanks so much Perry, that is a big relief. I thought I had a lot of replacements hardware to get.

The knob screws are rusted - I knew it couldn't be that easy - so I'll be at them with that silicon spray tomorrow.

Your window operators were called "Deluxe".

Many opinions differed with that name.

A little silicone spray along with pulling the handles inward toward each other help.

That hardware, by the way, is no longer available. So cherish what you have.
