Airstream windows to nowhere

OK, I embarrassed to admit that I didn't notice this until maybe a year after we bought this 2009 27' FB Flying Cloud brand new. On the front sides on the trailer there are small oval portal windows above the windows in the bedroom. They match the windows above the the main windows in the dining/living area. Funny thing is there are no matching openings on the inside of the bedroom. It's like at shift change, the new crew forgot to cut openings on the inside.
I did find out that this Airstream was the first one manufactured on this series in 2009 model year.
Has anyone an explanation for this??

That has got to be one of the strangest things I have ever seen or heard of on an Airstream. And I thought Argosy's were built strange, with random changes and items installed.

Those sure look like vista view windows which should be seen from the inside. I am dying to know what the real answer is.

It is funny that it took a year to notice. It just goes to show ya what people miss when they are excited about something new. The shine has started to dull, and its, look those " windows " don't match the inside. Look at it this way, it's new again. Lol

I'd think you have an excellent case for a no-cost 'fix' to your Vista view windows...

I'd think the dealer you bought from might be asked how this production screw-up got past their pre-delivery inspection!

I don't think the elapsed time should be an issue - your AS wasn't built correctly and they should fix it for you...

This is a new, advanced approach to windows. Windows let in heat or cold, maybe more than you want. So, to make the outside look cool, yet better insulate the interior, Airstream's cadre of design engineers, installed windows only on the outside. How cool is that? I bet no other RV company has thought of this.

We put Reflectix on all our bedroom windows to better regulate temperature and keep the room darker. If we had one sided windows, we would haven't had to do that.

There is supposed to be a small video camera inside that window, with a switch near the tv. you flip the switch and see the view outside the little window on Channel 3.

Most people don't bother because the view is typically the underside of some pine trees.

Just kidding.

You're driving me nuts, though, cause I don't have access to our trailer right now. I can see from external photos of ours that theres a little oval window under the main one on the curbside in the bedroom, but neither of us can remember if we can see out of it from inside and we have no photos from inside the bedroom.

And the videos from there, well.....never mind.

I dont really know if this is common on the newer units but on my 55 FC there are 2 curbside rear windows and the forward one was halfway inside a wardrobe /closet as originally configured . the dividing wall went almost right down the middle if the window- left just enough room for the crank opener. I guess they thought the coats needed extra ventilation and light.

Thanks for the comments. I don't really mind having less windows in the bedroom. It doesn't bother me at all, just makes me curious. It kind of ties the exterior look of the AS together with the front and back. I'll try and send a note to the factory and see what they come up with as an answer. I'm pretty sure they are insulated but I'll have to go back and see.

DAMN! Now that's funny about how long it took you to notice it. I've had similar issues.... I didn't know there was a LIGHT inside the garage door which made it easier to see the contents. Just converted it to LCD last week (forgot about it again and couldn't figure out why I had an extra... dur)

It's weird to me why they'd put one there in the first place. There is an overhead cabinet there on the streetside on twin bed FB models.

I don't see them up front like that on current 27' FBs at Colonial Airstream's site. Does anybody with an '09 27 FB have Vista Views there? Could a worker on the line have thought they were building a 28' front door model? But those only have Vista Views on the streetside.

I'm coming up only that this was to cover up some mistake. I watched a worker doing the cutouts during a factory tour. He hand positioned templates before plunge-routing the rough openings. This is done after the endcaps are mated and the shell is pretty well complete.

I sure wish they'd go back to allowing photography on the tours! Know they still allowed this 9 years ago. Maybe for your intrepid AIRForum correspondents? More than willing to delegate...

ya ever hear of a "flubber?" that is a coin that is minted wrong and gets through the inspection(s). Your trailer may be on its way to becoming a highly collectible because of its uniqueness. can you imagine your great grand kid trying to figger out those funky windows? priceless.

You must of got the Standard model Flying Cloud. The Delux comes with window openings on both the outside AND inside...

Yes, it sounds like an "oops" to me. After starting to cut the hole, the worker realized the mistake, and just decided to finish the install instead of replacing the skin :-)

Definitely a collector's item! Dont get it fixed, it makes your Airstream one of a kind, and a conversation piece!
