Add a window to your door
Any one ever thought of adding a window to the door of your AS trailer?
Most older units have a solid door with no window. Kind of cold feeling not knowing whats betond the door. Its a nice upgrade to add a window to the door. I have an apaque window with inside and outside frame all in tact if anyone wants to add a window to their door, or anywhere else as far as that goes. I was gong to do it on one of my old trailers but I sold it before I did the refit. My MH has a window just like this in the door.
Pm if interested 80 bucks.

How would that effect the integrity of the the door?
I don't know if the older ones would hold up?

A window added to the door of an older Airstream, if done properly, would have zero effect on the integrity of the door.
In fact, it would contribute slightly to adding strength to the entrance door.

Indeed
The frame of the window is muchmore rigid than the skins of the door. And the window assembly does not weigh much at all.
Not to mention the window allows more light in the As and gives it a warm feeling inside instead of a large panel with no curtain or anything.
And you could dress up the screen door by changing to lexan, tinted even. Been there and done that to every AS I have owned. People love the "storm door"

My ’83 34’ Excella has a window in the door which I really like. My ’67 Trade Wind does not. Realistically, though, I keep the shade pulled down because the sun glares in my eyes in the late afternoon and you have to open the door to move it because the screen door blocks access. I peek through a window on either side because, though I like having the shade open, I usually don’t fool with it.
That said, I really like having a window in the door at last.

What is the size of the window? It might look good in my '76 Trade Wind.

size
Frame size is 19 1/2" x 22 3/4"
Window size is 16 1/4" x 19 3/4"
This is opaque glass, the textured type that you cant see clearly through, kind of like glass you see in bathrooms but it is from an AS door
Perfect condition
This is a great addition to any AS. Especially if you have a ding or scratch somewhere that you want to cover up or repair. Obviously, the ding or scratch would probably be window high, probably........

I checked a little into portholes. Marine portholes I saw were very expensive. I would be interested in a less expensive option.

Door window
Using brand X windows for the door, is ok, but make sure that it has a slight bend, so that it fits correctly.

You can see in this thread that aircraft passenger windows have the perfect curve to fit a door. http://www.airforums.com/forums/f454...dow-30651.html
I will get back on this project, but using a narrow Airstream window. The frame on the aircraft window, although perfect for the job, is pretty heavy and making the shroud the fit the inner skin is complicated by the way the plexiglass is held in the frame.
I still have the aircraft windows if anyone is interested.

What about using the small upper vista view or lower front road side window from a smaller smaller AS. The vista view is curved the lower is flat. They both appear short enough to fit. Anybody tried?

I've got a spare upper Vista View. I'll give it a trial fit tonight.

Door Window
I put a window in my 73 Argosy and put clear glass in my o6 Safari.
Don't worry about the curve as I used flat glass in the 06 on the advise of the glass shop that furnished the glass.
Both are doing fine.
Both were installed by Roger Williams Airstream 800-378-5883.

I was thinking of using one of my spare curved windows from my old '67. I was thinking that the 17' window added to the door would be way cool. Thanks for rekindling the thought...

Photo's of window
On page 5 of my photo's is the Argosy window inside and out. The window is out of an 06 Intl., the window too the right of the door.
The Safari is the stock window with the glass replaced with the same tint as
the other windows.

I did a trial fit and it looks to be very close, but the Vista View is just a tad more curvy. I think that if the window is almost to the top of the door, maybe 3" gap from the top of the door to the top of the window, it might be perfect.
I have to admit that shape looks real good up against the door...
