72 upper vista view removal

I've just finished rebuilding all of my opening windows on my 72 Tradewind. I'm now moving on to my upper vista view windows.
I've searched the forums and seem to be getting mixed messages on the removal of the inner and outer panes.
The frame looks as if it's 2 pieces and the only way to remove the glass would be to remove the exterior rivets and entire frame.(see pic)
BUT, I found the below quote from a Canadian company that supplies the gasket for the vista views...

"1972:
The first year Double Pane Vista View Windows were available was 1972
and these trailers actually had a plastic inner pane with its own frame.
So on a 72 you can remove the inner vista view pane and just clean off
the damaged tint on the inside of the outer pane. It is quit simple and
the finished product looks good."

Snap ring windows; 1973 & 1974 a few early 75's

1975-1984 Non Snap Ring Windows - Glass Inner Pane.

The attached interior pic is a close up of the lower seem. Unless there are some screws under the vulkem to open up the frame , I just done see any way around removing exterior rivets and the entire frame.

I pulled that quote about the Canadian company from another post. I do not remember seeing the name of the company but when I have some more time, I'll find it again and post the link.

I've been getting my gaskets from CRLaurence. Vintage Trailer Supply also has various gaskets.

After looking closer at my upper VV windows this past weekend, I saw no other option of removing the panes than to un-rivet the entire window from the shell. The toughest part was just pushing the frame out after all the rivets were removed. That 40+ year old vulkem still had its grip

As you can see in the pics below, the frames are dual channel and held together with split pins. One of the lower split pins was totally rusted away, the other lower pin is rusted but still useable.(The pin seen in the pic is an upper)

I plan to convert this into a single pane and use butyl tape to fill the inner channel which held the plexiglass pane. The channel is 5/16" wide x 7/16" high. The closest size butyl tape that I've been able to find (online) is 5/16" x 5/16".

Any recommendations of the best source for butyl tape? Online, home improvement, glass shop?

If there is a better way to fill that channel or just leave it empty, I'm open to suggestions.

That was the thread I saw.

My lower VV's are single pane and the gaskets look really good, so I'm thinking of leaving those alone. In my case, the lowers require the same "full frame removal"

I have had those instructions for years just never had the nerve to break the inside pane as instructed on my 1976 Sovereign for the 2 in the back bedroom. One day.

Wait a minute, wait a minute...I have a '79 31' AS LY. All VVs are messed up. I thought that it had split rings and tried to treat them as such.. I had a small screw driver which I broke, discarded and decided to ask you guys. I am still cornfused, but they need work!
