'57 Overlander questions
Howdy folks,
Looking for some help on how to remove the Hehr standard windows on my '57 Overlander. I have a few that the arm that pushes the windows out had been broken, and I've just been able to slide the glass window out of the track and repair the gaskets, but for the ones that are still "functioning", I can't figure out how I'm supposed to remove the glass. The handle is of course in the track for roll out purposes, but I don't know how to remove it. We have tried removing the pin to remove the crank in the hopes that we could push it through the frame, but it still wouldn't fit through it. Suggestions?
One of the windows doesn't have original hardware. I think the PO used regular storm window cranks or something. I think I'm just gonna use an angle grinder and chop that bar in two. I can't figure any other way to get it off.

Been awhile since I did mine, but I think if you unfasten the crank mechanism from the steel upright, those two bolts, then you can pull the crank inside the trailer enough to slide the pin on the arm up enough to reach the wider slot on the steel upright.
Wish I could say it simpler.

Thanks for your super-quick response. Are you talking about the two bolts at the top or the ones at the bottom?? (If I'm thinking of the same piece of the window you are...)

Now that I think about it, I think you are taking about the screws on the crank itself, one at the top & bottom, we have unscrewed those, but still can't get it through.

If it's like mine there was a notched cut-out area (near the top) on the rail that the arm slides in. That's the only place where you can wiggle the arm out. Look closely, it's not easy to see.
Caveat, mine weren't Hehr standards, but the mechanism should be similar.

Yes, but you don't want to pull it through, you want to pull it in towards the interior of the trailer. That let's you move the arm enough to reach that wider opening in the top of the steel upright.

Okay, another '57 window question. I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row: I've bought replacement screen & replacement cranks. Looking at the two or three windows that still have cranks on them, (and we'll eventually be replacing all of them) it looks like we need to cut a hole in the screen, push the crank through, attach it to the middle bar on the window, and then screw the crank into the middle brace on the frame. Is this right? Seems like cutting a hole in the screen is such a bass-ackward way to do it. Looking for any advice on this before I tackle it.
Another question I have is for the little lever that simply pushes the window out a bit...not a crank. Same application? Hole through the screen?
