'50s Hehr Windows

I'm seeking advice on where to look for 50's Hehr windows. I need to replace two damaged window sash's in my 1954 Flying Cloud. The sash sizes are 23.5"x13.5" and 23.5"x8"(one of two in the window). Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, scott42

Scott,

They come available on Ebay from time to time. Also join some vintage trailer groups on Yahoo and place a request. You could also try Tin Can Tourists. They were used on many different trailers in the 1950's.

This is the inherant problem with these windows other than the PITA you deal with while restoring them...they are hard to find, and if you happen to find one, bid high and often because there are others in the same boat as you.

Good Luck!

Did you ever find your hehr window? I'm in need of the same size for my Liner (23.5"x13.5"). Mine works, but has some unsightly holes in it. :-S

If you run across 2, I'll buy one from ya!

Can you TIG weld the holes and then grind and polish smooth?

not metal that thin. Plus it's a little bent up. I'd rather try to find another one, if i can... especially since i have the time.

I did not find any windows with the dimensions I needed. I had wrinkled up the lower front corner pretty bad and couldn't find a replacement so my approach was t get any window and cut up and splice which I'm sure will work. Before I started to cut I started to straighten the corner and it responded without coming apart so with some judicious hammering I was able to put it back into usable condition.
So I have a window complete with frame and operator with a frame dimension of 40"x17 3/4" that is for sale.
Anybody interested?
Cheers,
scott

Do you still have the window? If so, can you post a pic or 2? I might be interested in it if I can come up with a plan to fit it in. :-)

Good work. We are restoring a '56 Caravanner and have been searching for this size window! If you are still interested in selling, please let me know.

I'll pass. I was going to make a spot for it, or cut it down... seems criminal if someone has an exact fit for it!

Hi, I still have the window. The frame dimensions are 39 3/4"x17 5/8". Will fit in an opening40"x18". The window is in good shape. The operator and sash lock both work. The gasket is hard and should be replaced (Vintage Trailer Supply has the gasket), the screen has a 1/8" hole, The vertical struts in the frame are rusty and can be cleaned, treated and cold galvanized easily, there is no glass in it (I recommend putting tempered single strength in it-the stops are all there. VTS has the small machine screws and stamped nuts to replace the originals. All in all it is very worthy to be fixed up and put in your trailer.
I paid $200+shipping and would expect the buyer to pay the same.
See photos.
Cheers,
scott

Several 50s Hehr Standard currently available on E-bay. I just bought one. I've been looking for two years for my 53 FC.

I have a question about the window screens in my '53 Clipper. Most of them are actually in OK shape but some have rips. How do I replace them? It looks like the center post with the opening levers is riveted and the screen goes between the metal strips on the inside and outside. I can't see how to fix this. I've got some galvanized steel insect screen from Vintage Trailer Supply on the way but now I am afraid it is all for nothing. Thanks for any guidance.
