2 questions...parts and function

According to the 56 literature my rear window is a emergency escape. After taking it apart I can see how it works.

Question 1. Is it something that should be addressed so it works. Or should I just repair it and leave it as a non escape, yet still opening. There are so many layers to the rear escape...see pictures.

Question 2. Is this channel available? or is this something that has to be fab.

I think you will find that back then the definition of an Emergency Exit was anything you could fit through. The layers of shade and screen would disappear quickly as you dive through the window.
