1964 Hehr Window Allignment

We have replaced the glass in all of the windows on our 1964 Overlander. Now it's time to put the windows back in (hopefully before the rain hits).

In the original windows there is a small plastic piece that fits into a gap in the center of the rail that hooks into the window frame on the trailer. The plastic piece has a hole such that when the window is in the properly aligned position you put a screw through the upper part of the frame into the plastic piece. The plastic piece prevents the window from sliding one way or the other on the attachment track.

The plastic pieces are so old we can't get them to go back into the track. They split and flip over your head into the tall grass behind you.

Has anyone figured out a way to keep the windows aligned without the 52 year old plastic pieces?

First picture is the window showing where the gap is for the plastic piece. 2nd picture shows a close-up of the gap. 3rd is the last remaining whole plastic piece with the screw that goes through it.

Following!

Following this post! Didn't know about these pieces until after I removed our windows and seem to have lost them in the removal process. How important are they? Is there something others have been using instead?

any update, I'm just finishing rebuilding all my windows and have almost half of one plastic retainer in hand :-( I was thinking I'd buy some nylon or Delrin rod and make some but I'd rather see a "real" one first

I sent the pictures to Inland RV to see if they have them, but didn't receive a response. We put all of our windows back in without the pieces. We've taken three trips and haven't had any issues. The only trouble we might expect is if the window shifts a little in the track after it's been open for a bit, you won't be able to close the window without re-centering it in the track. So at this point, we're considering it to not be a critical part.

Thanks for your response. I'm glad you haven't suffered any problems yet. On my previous trailer I did the same thing but sure enough one day I closed a window and heard the frame sash crack :-( I did a field repair which held up well but it stuck in my mind.
