Substitute handle for Bargman L-77?

Has anybody used the pricey Bargman H20-2 Reproduction handle from VTS in place of the L-77? I would hate to pay $150 for it and find out it doesn't work.

Better yet, does anybody know where I can get an unbroken L-77? All I need is the exterior handle part - I have everything else.

I have one....it is a great copy and not made of a cast metal that will bust again. Hate to say it, but bite the bullet and buy it...as pricey as it it. The originals hardly ever come up used...they are being utilized or they are busted.

You know, I had the original lock in our 67, but it died. Not knowing at the time that it was unique (the shaft is much longer), I went to the local RV store and bought something that looked pretty much like it. Got home and discovered the problem. But I also discovered that I could disassemble the original and the new, remove the long shaft, and put it into the new lock. That was about, oh, 15 years ago, and it's still working.

But if it dies, I think I'll bite the bullet and buy a new one.

I currently have a used H20-2 for sale on the classifieds with interior lock parts as well. I do no think it would work as a replacement for the L77 as they are completely different.

@lucymcdog

Did you ever come up with a solution, or did you buy the replacement handle from VTS?

I used an old vintage glass door knob for mine.

cuyeda-

I bought the reproduction from TG Twinkie. It's not available from VTS right now. It's machined from a solid piece of aluminum and the quality appears to be quite good.

I haven't installed it yet, but he sent 3 pages of installation instructions and pictures.

He advertises on the Classifieds here. See this link.

Sorry, I am mixed up on the type of handle discussed here. I was thinking the H20 lock and the H20 handle. An old door knob certainly wouldn't fit the L77, but it did work as a replacement for the H20. :-)

TGTwinke made me a handle then had a number of them made to sell. The quality is excellent and the price is reasonable. You can contact him either through the forum or his e-mail address is: dougbowman88@hotmail.com

I have just received two L-77 locks. One with two keys and with beautiful chrome. The other one needs polishing and a striker and a key made for it. See pictures in classified section under Bargman L-77.

Contact me if you are still needing a lock. bigrod249@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Rick

Where did you get the glass door knob for your L-77 Lock. I need to find something that will work on my L-77 lock. Thanks?

My handle is a Bargman H20 (?), not an L-77. It's a vintage glass door knob with a set screw to key it in place. A picture search is similar to this one. You could probably find a whole L-77.

Do you still have your broken handle? We have a great chrome shop here in El Paso that can weld it up. And re chrome it for about $75-$100
Let me know if that's something you might be interested in. Not many chrome shops left around the United States.

I don't think welding the cast steel handle will work.

I've had good luck with an L77 and L66.extra material was added to the back of the handle to beef it up. Not as strong as yours but still original looking.

Cast steel welds pretty good, cast iron is a big challenge.

I believe your coach has a KT handle assembly. Some parts are available from Vintage Trailer Supply. Or Out of Doors Mart. There are also replacements for that unit. But require some significant modifications to install.

Can you post a picture of what you have if you have any door lock at all?
