Happened to me just a few days ago and of course I had not seen this thread until today. Cost me $150 for a locksmith to pick the lock --he needed less than two minutes to do so.

Yes, it locked because I slammed the door in the wind. How could this design flaw not have been corrected long ago?

Steve.

Please stop quoting what we have and what we don't have and what it may fit.

You are dead wrong in your statement.

We appreciate trying to help, but in this case, your wrong.

Thank you.

Andy

Because their list of things needing correction is so long and overwhelming that they are frozen due to anxiety?

More confused than when I started

From what I've read in this and some parallel threads on the subject, Andy has a fix for a deadbolt that can lock itself if the door slams and that this problem appears to be pervasive on later model trailers. It appears that there may be different types of lock hardware and the problem locks are those that have a deadbolt separate from the main lock and this deadbolt may have a pin or lever that slides in a slot to activate it.

I've attached a photo, remember the adage that a picture is worth 1,000 words. My deadbolt has a rotating knob that feels like there is a cam inside to act as a detent. This deadbolt can be operated from the outside using a key that is different from the one on the main lock. It is possible trip the lever on the main lock as you're going out and when the door closes, it is locked, but not by the deadbolt.

Is this design different from the one Andy's kit fixes?

The one that I got the repair kit from Andy for was the "not so new" one that uses a slide pin.

Do you like this statement better, Andy?

OK, gonna ask, does this lockout and fix pertain to certian years of trailers? Or all of them? I have a 1973 Tradewind, and will def. send my SASE if it is possible for mine to lock. MPJ

Nope, it's not for the 70's trailers.

I used to lock myself out on my 73 all the time with my after market deadbolt. I solved the problem in 2 ways: 1. a tiny bungee I hooked on the deadbolt when not in the trailer and in case I forgot to do #1 a length of coat hanger with right angle bends on each end.
