Storage lock replacements- southco lift and turn compression latches

So I've searched all over and would like to rekey or replace the lock/latch on the outside storage compartment of my FC2017 23D.
The key says southco RS141. Pictures below:

I have easily found other replacements for the water and outside shower, but can't seem to find any alternatives or advice on how to change this out.

Best I can tell it is a Southco Lift and a turn compression latch.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Thx

Rich,
We just ran into a situation with our 2016 AS 19' Serenity where the key just quit working in the same door as you're mentioning. I tried everything possible and it wouldn't budge and finally the key broke inside! I got the door open by jimmying the compression latch (carefully). I finally found the parts list online and the replacement part from AS looks like its P/N 382230-02 "Rear Access Door Compression Latch w/ key code". It's obviously quite flimsy and I haven't tried looking for an alternative yet because it just happened today. If I decide to order from AS I'll probably or 2 - - just in case.
If you find a different replacement post it here please. Good luck!

Hmmm. I will see if these fit, thanks for the lead, I've not had much luck.

I purchased some other tube type locks for the outer compartments, and I plan to take this system to a locksmith and see if they can replace the stock trunk lock mechanism with one of these new tubular locks. Then all my outside locks would be on the same key and different than CH751 standard key.

Thx

Looking at the picture it shows the key is ch751. At least you would be down to one key outside.
I wonder if a locksmith can re-core these. I just replaced my ch751 keys with Cam locks from ch751.com. Left them a voicemail to see if they had any info on this. Will share if they call back.

Troutboy, can you explain how you removed the locks to replace the water and outdoor shower latches?

As for your question, I called southco when I couldn’t get any answers here. They will sell the latch without the core. They can also provide the need dimensions for the lock needed. One can then order new locksets for all that are keyed the same.

Wow. That’s cool. Those two locks are easy to remove. Open the door, unscrew the large retainer nut, it’s very flat, and then the entire lock pops out and you replace with a new one.

I did this so long ago, it hasn’t been bad using two keys. Basically have one key for all locks accept that south co one. It would be nice to have them all on same key though

Did your locks look like this? Mine don’t seem to have the retainer nut to unscrew. Or I am missing something.

I have notes at my office from my call with Southco. I’ll post the info when I get back to the office.

Okay, sorry it’s been so long I couldn’t remember. So for these, you have to take a screwdriver or needle nose pliers and push in two black tabs and push it through. See photo below and you will see the tabs I’m talking about in between the sliver shrouds.

When I called SouthCo, I learned this latch is their Series 62 model. If you go to their catalog, you can see how to make your selection.

I am going to go to tubular keys for all my outside compartments (different topic)so I am going to order without the core. (Option 21)

The latch comes in black and polished chrome. I’m going to go with polished chrome (Option 4)

My product number will look like the following:
62-421-11-2

SouthCo won’t sell direct but have many distributors on their website. My local distributor is who I’m going to purchase from. Maybe my cores / cam locks too so all are coordinated by one supplier.

I want to play with the SouthCo latch I have. Seems to me that if you can buy the latch without the core and install one keyed like the other locks, the core should be removable. More investigation.

First trip of the season and opened my storage before we left, and when we arrived at campsite it no longer worked. Wondering if anyone found out if the current lock could be replaced or if an entirely new lock needs to be purchased as mentioned above?

Same thing happened to me yesterday.

I’m not sure what I need to do to remove and replace this lock/lock core...

I have a 2017 23D FC and had to remove the bed and the wood bed platform to get access to remove the lock. Luckily, I had enough space to get my arm through the low drain access to grab a screwdriver from my tool kit to remove all the screws holding the platform in place. It was then just a matter of loosening the nut that holds the latch and I was able to open the compartment door. I just picked up a whole new latch and lock from my local dealer and replaced it. It's just held on by a hex washer screw. Still on the search to see if the lock core can be replaced since I have a feeling after reading these threads this may eventually happen again.

You must be able to get separate locks as you can purchase the latch with out the lock in it. Try here for the latch, you can get it with a lock or no lock or Phillups screw .

https://shop.southco.com/en-us/

Try a search for 62-4 on this web site.

I just went through the same thing. I’m gonna try taking mine to a locksmith to see if it cheaper to fix or replace the lock instead of buying a new latch. The latch with lock is 48 bucks before shipping for this web site.

I just got back from the locksmith. He thinks it’s made in China and wasn’t sure how it’s made, but he mentioned that you stick a pick in the key hole to press or pull a tab on inside to remove the locking mechanism. He tried while I was there but was busy and asked if I could leave it and will work on it and get back to me by tomorrow.

Locksmith just called. He said he couldn’t fix as something was most likely broke inside. I tried now to order a new one.
