Slam door to lock?

Having serviced Airstream for almost 5 decades, I have yet to find any Airstream trailer or motorhome, where it was necessary to slam the door.

When slamming is necessary, then something is wrong. When the "wrong" is corrected, then the slamming is no longer necessary.

Slamming the door will eventually lead to damaging it.

The locks that have been used, are certainly not life time locks. Things happen to the locks, the door gets out of alignment especially when being slammed, parts wear out, lubing is necessary, the trailer is in a twist, locks must be lubed internally, etc.

To me, a salesman that slams the door with the lock locked, is being a smart alec show off. They are supposed to demonstrate the beauty and usefulness of the trailers, and NOT how you can abuse them.

The door frame is a simple "C" channel and will rewrd those that abuse it with many headaches.

To me, being kind to the trailer results in much pleasure and happiness, and certainly no big bills for repairing damages caused by abuse.

I agree Andy. And After we were charged $169 to de-winterize I don't think I will return to said dealer. From what I gather we were overcharged and very easily could have done it ourselves had we not been so worried about screwing it up. I chalk it all up to being newbies and learning as we go.

Having to push the door shut is usually caused having a very good door gasket.

Pushing causes no harm.
