Screen door latch- '66 Safari

Our 66 Safari is missing the mechanism that holds the screen door to the outer door. We're not sure what it is or what it looks like. Does anyone have a picture of this , AND/OR have a viable replacement idea/solution of how to fix it... it's getting to be a real pain to have to open two doors each time we go in or out.
BTW there is a female snap on the screen door and a hole that lines up with it on the inside of the outer door , but may be a PO invention?

Thanks for any help you can give,
Barry & Karen in Mich.

Our '66 Trade Wind has the snap that holds the screen to the inside of the outer door. It does a good job but occasionally is difficult to unsnap. It appears to be an orginal installation.

It's a strap with a snap

We're too far from our trailer's storage location to get you a picture right now, but the original device was a leather strap attached to the door. There's a female snap at the lower end of the strap that fits the male snap attached to the screen door.

While the swing panel in the screen door is open, this strap can extend through and hold the two doors together.

Ours broke last summer, and I replaced it with a nylon strap with a snap.

Open both the door and the screen. Look in the inside surface of the door for a hole, rivet, screw or whatever used to hold the top end of that strap. Make a strap that extends from there to the snap in the door, install the appropriate size snap in the strap (found mine at a fabric store).

Sorry I couldn't find a picture. That would have been simple.

Just so happens that I was doing some maintainence on the trailer this morning so I took a picture for you. Originally the strap was leather but as already been posted it finally broke. That's pretty good endurance for about 45 years 'on the job. I replaced that strap with the end of an old fabric belt.

Thanks Neil and Andrew!! When I first saw the male end of the snap still attached to the screen , and a hole on the inside of the outer door..I thought there must have been a snap there and I even thought it might have been leather!! Great to hear this as I can fabricate a new leather snap outfit.. I was hoping that was what went there and it wasn't the PO idea of a way to keep them both closed...

Thanks again...
