RV Lock

Has any one tried the remote controlled lock advertised in the current in issue of Trailer Life?

No, just saw it in today's mail. It would be nice if they had a silver one!

Hi, no I wouldn't even consider this new lock; It has the tongue on it like a common house door latch. My Airstream latch has cogs and a striker plate similar to what is used on a modern car.

I'm restoring 76' 31ft. sovreign I have just purchased, it does not have any keys to any of the doors. Where can I find some without calling a locksmith?

The door latch/lock on the newer Airstreams is what we call "bear claw", like the ones on later cars, starting in the late 60s.

We buy after market latches of this type for use on Street Rods to replace the old, and usually worn out, spring loaded latches used on old cars.

The ones we get are small, and will fit the thin door frames of Airstreams. That may very well be what they are using at the factory.

Electric actuators are also available which are thin enough to fit inside an Airstream door. These can be triggered by remote. You don't even have to run wires into the doors. Contacts are made that fit into the door jamb and "make" when the door is closed. These can be made to open and to lock/unlock using a remote. They also work with a handle and key.

There is some pretty slick stuff out there.

Just found small bear claw latches with built-in actuators with remote that should fit in an Airstream door.

That would be fun.
