Question Rubber Door Seal Replacement

Hello Folks

I purchased new door seal for the outside door of our safari.

It appears the seal is glueed on. Is there a proper adhesive for this job???

Thnxs in advance.

Wayne,

My personal choices would be 3M Scotch grip Industrial Adhesive # 4799 or 3m Automotive weatherstip adhesive, both are about the same formula as far as I can tell. You should be able to get the adhesive at any large auto parts house that deals in paint and body repair items.

door seal

Thnxs Mike..

Will this adhesive bond on contact or will it have to be secured for a bit?

Once you put weatherstrip adhesive on it has to sit for a minute or two before joining the pieces. When you put the gasket on the door it is a contact adhesive, have it right.

They are both contact cements. I smear the glue on both and wait until they set up and then stick them together.

Question

Is the weatherstrip made for the Airstream door? I need one for my '76. Can you tell me where you got the weatherstrip?
Thanks, Richard

Richard,

I purchased the door seal for my 76 MH from Ace Fogdall in Iowa.

It came with a adhesive foam tape pre-applied. I pulled the old stuff off of the door and using a dremel tool with a sanding wheel stripped the old glue off and got to clean alum. Then it was just peel and stick. I put it on 5 months ago and have not had any problems with adhesion.

They sell it by the foot, so measure and get enough to make a mistake. Florence or Christy can help you and they are at 800-747-0747.

They also have the insert for the interior trim in the bathroom, kitchen and lounge if you need it. It was originally ivory in color, but tends to fade to a tan/brown color.
