replacing door handle

I need a new door handle for my 81 excella 2 31 footer. Does anyone know where I can get one? Will a new one work or do I have to find one from that generation? I have a photo under members photos. Look using my user name. Thanks, mj

Check Inland RV in California. If memory serves they have one that will work but it may not be the same as orginal. Then Again the style they have may be correct for some years.

I know Inland Andy has several different locks. If he doesn't have one, maybe you could check RV salvage yards, I don't think that particular lock was an Airstream exclusive part. I remember seeing one on an old Dolphin mini motorhome.

Check with Out-Of-Doors-Mart also. They carry several different locks as well.

Your door already has a replacement lock.

The original lock was made by Keeler Brass, who are out of business.

That was replaced on your trailer with a GM lock and adapter plate, which has not been available for years.

We have a replacement lock that has an adapter plate as well.

Part # 22390.

We are the only vendor that has lock kits for the older trailers and motor homes.

Never hurts to check with your local dealer.
My guys were able to get me OEM Bargman lock replacement for my 1965 model.
For 1/3 what Andy is asking.

1965 Airstream trailers used an ordinary household entrance door lock.

That's why they fail all the time.

Gosh, talk about pricing.

Home Depot has that lock for $9.95, plus tax of course.

We do not have a replacement lock for a 1965 trailer door.

I replaced the door lock on my 75 TW today. Don't ask what that cost me.

Andy, I called Airstream and they gave me five parts numbers and told me to call my local airstream dealer and they would be able to place an order. Can I get a better deal with you?

What are the part numbers the factory gave you?

You can post them here, send us an e-mail, send us a PM. I will be happy to research those numbers.

You have a GM lock with an adapter plate.

That lock and parts have not been available for years.

But since the factory doesn't always let it's dealer know when something has been reborn, I will keep an open mind about the availability, based on those part numbers.

Tomorrow I will not be in until about 10:30am, due to a special meeting at City Hall, sponsored by my bank.

Andy,
These are the part numbers that airstream gave me; plate with knob 381423-01, outside housing 381423-02, strike plate 381432, screws x 6 381423-060, and lock plates x 2 681850-101. Let me know what you come up with. She said that the original door lock was replaced for airstreams between several years and that these parts were what I needed to replace it.

Those numbers are for the lock kit that we have.

They are "not" repair parts for your lock, which was made by GM (not General Motors), who quit making that lock many years ago.

The above is the kit for 1978 to 1991 trailers.
