Our bathroom door has delaminated in the center (large bubble). (2012 International Serenity). We are not sure why this happened but we suspect leaving the door ajar with the furnace on (to allow heat to enter the bathroom). Lesson learned! The new door is 859.00 (Outdoor Mart quote). We hate the yellow flowers ("Asian flare") on the glass on this door. Is it possible to replace this door with an Asian Sand finished door with the oval porthole? Will it fit without problems, does anyone know? Will check with Outdoor Mart after the holidays.... but we are wondering if we have to pay THAT sort of money why replace it with one we hated? Also, anyone know if changing out the door is easy with the piano type hinge? Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

Just re glue the Formica to the wooden door. This should be an easy fix.
You could rebuild the whole door to your liking for way less than $859.
Then just purchase the international porthole style window and install it.
Easy fix.

I have an oval window in my Signature but if I remember correctly, the Serenity has a rectangular window in the door. That would likely not work for a direct replacement. Think about comparing the costs of a new sheet of laminate and a replacement window to a whole new door. The window is not hard to do and if bubble is in the middle of the laminate, replacement of the sheet would likely be required. Could you post a photo of door ?

Yes, after Christmas I will post a photo (it is not stored at my home). The "bubble" is in the middle of the door so if we can find the laminate to match (Asian Sand) we could try to repair the present door, but we have never worked with laminate before and not sure how to re-glue this part of the present laminate (in the middle of the door). We will research online and see if we can figure it out. If we can fix the door we wouldn't worry about replacing the window... that we could handle if the porthole window can be made to fit and the present opening is not too large.

It’s glued to the plywood door using contact cement. (above)
Roll the contact cement to both the door and the laminate back, allow to cure the required time, then drop in place and roll it down, trim edges with a laminate trim bit and a router and your done! Not hard at all.
If you are going to relaminate the door you can fill in the Serenity window hole with a wooden patch and then recut the hole for the new window.

Those aren’t yellow “flowers”...they are the leaves of the Gingko biloba tree. An ancient conifer (yes based on it’s cellular structure it is a flat leaved deciduous conifer!) that was once thought to be extinct until discovered in the mountains of China. It can be found in the fossil record from 270 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the planet. Also known as the “Madenhair Tree” as the leaves are reminiscent of the Madenhair Ferns. The leaves turn a beautiful golden yellow in the fall. Considered good luck...change at your own peril!!! (As a bit of trivia illustrating this is the fact that 6 trees survived the atomic bomb blast of Hiroshima and survive to this day. Other specimens in temples are estimated to be between 1500-2000 years old.) YMMV.

I would remove the door skin and do re-gluing repairs . If you do not feel competent hire a finishing carpenter to do it for you. You should be easily save $600 to your original quote to replace. I don't know what the core is of our doors but it isn't rocket science nor should be the price to repair .

Don't want to get off topic, but I really appreciate the info on the ginko leaf! Just ordered a 2019 Serenity and to be honest, didnt know what the yellow 'flowers' were but thought they were pretty [emoji4]

I also apologize for getting slightly off topic but could someone point me to a source of door windows. We would like to add a window to our bathroom door to let more light in from the street side.

Interesting. We have a Ginko tree in our front yard. It just shed all its very nice yellow leaves. Tough tree. It is surviving and thriving in spite of having a broken trunk at one point from an excess wind event. Prized in Chinese culture as being very fortuitous according to DW, who is a member in good standing of that culture...

I think you may have just changed my mind about replacing those! My Granddaughter was born in China in 2014 and I traveled there for a month to be with my daughter. A very special country and time for me indeed! Who knew those were Ginko leaves?!? Many thanks for the information! As for the door... I will post photos soon and we are going to try to take the door down, remove the sheet of laminate on the front and replace with contact glue or cut a new one and re-glue. We found the Asian Sand in Wilsonart (HOme Depot) and we have a router... just need the roller and contact glue and a LOT of luck!

After looking again at the door (forgot to take photos!) we would really like to replace the whole door with an Asian Sand door with the oblong porthole type window. (bad luck or not! lol) Is that type of door the same size, though? I guess Outdoor Mart could order us one and it looks easy to install (although the towel bar and door handle etc. do not come installed so those have to be re-installed). We are just curious if the doors are the same size. Our present door is 25 1/16 inches wide, 25 3/8 inches high, and 15/16 inches thick. Anyone have the dimensions of the porthole style (oblong window) Asian Sand door? Many thanks! Also, we DID try to find the Asian Sand Wilsonart formica sheet and although Home Depot has it listed on their site, no samples in the store. All the samples we did look at where not shiny, but matte, so I wonder it the Asian Sand you buy in sheets would actually match? We could have ordered a sheet, but then if you do not take it there is a restocking fee!

Update to what I found: Finally called Jackson City Airstream. The Porthole door is made for the International signature (rather than our Serenity) and the woman I spoke to said it only came in the dark laminate. (?) . She gave me the part # and said to tell the dealer to write a note to make the door in Asian Sand. That is what we did. The dealer says approx. 4 weeks and approx. a week until they can meet their order quota to send the order in. We both have doubts but are doing what the lady, Karen, advised. Time will tell if the door will fit and look right. I have seen the door in Asian sand in some of the brochures so not sure what to make about that?

We finally decided to order a new door from Out-of-Doors-Mart. Called Jackson Center to get a part #, ordered, waited about 6 weeks... door came in, went in like a dream, and when we took the film off the porthole window... we found a messed up glass. Contacted ODMart (who are absolutely wonderful to work with) and they ordered us a new one. The new window came in in about 2 weeks and when we installed it JC had messed up the screws!! They left one completely out! (VERY noticable in this door). We measured and installed our own but my, goodness!! I thought we were never getting it installed. We love the result. We have the towel bar re-installed but are waiting on an upgraded hook.
