Replacement Door for 75th Bambi

Ok, long story short, I need a complete new door. I have been afraid to ask the body shop or Airstream if making a new one is possible. This is one with the round port hole window and only available on the 75 models they made. Model year 2006/2007. Also the screen door has that special "Jackson Center..." cut out. That may be able to be salvaged.

What are my chances of getting a new one to replace mine?

Have you asked Airstream directly? It wouldn't hurt. If anyone would have an idea of availability I'm sure they would. I've also read from many others on the forum that they are extremely helpful and enthusiastic when it comes to repairs. Bummer on the need for a replacement though, but life happens.

Absolutely screw up your courage and call the factory. That is the absolute best place to get the quality replacement you need for this special trailer. The round window is an add on to the regular door that they have in abundance. The stainless steel screen guard was still available recently. I'd say your chances of scoring a new door are very good.

Good answers so far

New Airstream? I would only get it from the factory. And only allow an experienced and qualified dealer to install -- who knows if the door jamb side of the hinges are okay? Finding that good dealer service shop is your next question...

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I'd call Airstream of Spokane... they are the closest AS dealer that I'd trust.

Come to think of it, that would be a pretty cool mod! If you find out, post how much it will cost.

If you simply ask for the part from Jackson Center, they will refer you to a dealer because they don't sell direct, unless you have them install it at the service center.

hi asher

the chances of getting a new one are quite good.

you can't order it from the factory but a dealer/service center can...

be advised a 'new door' isn't just a door...

it is the ENTIRE assembly (frame/hinges/door/window/latch/locks/screen)

these doors are built individually, with the frame, hinge and door fabricated together on a jig.

the screen assembly is sometimes reused but usually replaced too...

so the dealer will have to drill out the rivets and remove the current frame (whatever is left)

right down to the original cutout opening.

then the entire new unit is fitted, most likely with olympic rivets to replace the original bucked rivets.

unless the dealer/service center has buck rivet capacity...

i'm guessing about 3.5k$ for the hardware...

this process is somewhat like replacing a skin panel.

cheers

mr 2air,

so less than half the cost of say an average rolex for a cool door?

seems reasonable to me...

a vintage '05 CCD w/a porthole entrance door.

i'm in.

sign me up. i'll just raise rally fees.

k.

Sorry about your door. Are you sure your door cannot be repaired? A new door can be obtained from the factory ,the only unique part would be the round window which can be built.
Contact Kim Britt at Airstream, she is the parts manager and can help you as to availability.

Thanks for all your comments. The trailer is in the body shop (that was recommended by the dealer) being fixed right now. They only part they didn't have was the door. I need to call about that. Yes, it's very expensive, $3000. Total damage was $7000. I side swiped a concrete post that protects gas pumps. My fault for not judging the turn better. I was my first trip :'( so obviously I was going nuts. This was my trip to Casini Ranch where I met my first fellow Airstreamers and had a great time.

All the work is covered by insurance minus a $1000 deductable. In a way I'm happy I finally get something out of having something insured. State Farm was great. It only increased my yearly premium $50.
