Removing, Rekeying, and Replacing Door Lock

Greetings Fellow Airstreamers,Recently purchased a '76 Sovereign in pretty darn good condition. The trailer has an after-market deadbolt that works great;however, the previous owner didn't have the key for the entry latch itself. No problem, I thought. I'll just remove the entry latch and take it to my favorite locksmith. Here's where I need help. First I removed the inside handle. Then I removed the three, screws from the inside and the one screw adjacent to the latch bolt. The entire mechanism came loose, but I can't get it out. It hangs up on the inside door handle shaft. Can anyone tell me the secret?Ken Albuquerque

Ken, I am bumping this one back to the top.
I am wondering, is this the model with the $750 handle?

removing door lock

I've taken the lockset out on my '75 Ambassador and remember it hanging up, but I just wiggled and pushed to get it out. Hope this helps.

You could have ordered a new tumbler for around $54 or so from Inland RV, drilled out the old core and installed the new one within 15 minutes. It came with 2 keys and instructions which were pretty simple to follow. I would think Inland still had them for sale.

No lock info, just a Hi!

Ken -

Like the subject says, no lock info. Just a Hello and welcome from a fellow New Mexican! Glad to know another ASer from between the coasts where there seem to be a zillion. Not so many in the middle. Glad to know I'm not alone out here!!!! Kidding.

Welcome again!

Axel
