Removing an Airstream Screen Door.
I want to permanently remove the screen door from my 1976 Argosy.
How do I do this?
I can’t readily see how the main door hinge-pin comes apart.
The rivets could be drilled out of the screen door hinge but I would like to remove the entire screen door, including the hinge supports.
Information much appreciated.

i too would like to remove my screen door, only to fix the crack that has developed around the middle hinge. apparantly the method is to drill a small hole on the underside and then use a center punch to push out the retaining pin.
im sure (hopefully) some other forum member will chime in with more information about this process. Can you use the same pin, what size bit to use to drill the hole etc?

I would suggest that you leave the screen door hinge in place.
After removing the screen door, you can fasten it's hinge to the back side of the main door.
Taking the hinge apart is not a good idea, as once you remove the pin, it will always want to come out by itself.

Thanks Andy.
I was hoping the screen hinges could be neatly removed but I defer to your long experience.
Maybe I can cut the screen hinges close to the main hinge and hide the cut-off portion on the backside of the door, in the jamb in other words.
Can you please PM me with your best price on a set of window rock guards for the 1976 Argosy, including shipping to Ontario (Canada, not California.)

On the other hand, if you leave the hinges intact, the next owner might be much obliged.

Excella:
There was no window in the original Argosy door so we put one in.
See post #280 here:

I can’t have both a fully operating screened window (which I prefer) and the screen door.
Maybe a future owner will appreciate that change too.

Changed my mind
I’m keeping the screen door after all. Phil, who helps me a lot around the project, rhapsodized about looking out onto a field of Tiger Lilies while parked on the Saskatchewan prairies. Or maybe it was just a field of flowers somewhere. Anyway, I was convinced.
I’m going to drill out the rivets, however, and have the door painted to match the trailer, then re-screen it.
