Need Info on Keyless entry key pad removal

Is there anyone out there that has replaced the keypad on their rig? I have a '91 Limited Classic 60TH Anniversary with a bad key pad. I have the replacement pad that came out of a '92 Thunderbird, ,but I,m unsure if the rivets next to the pad on the trailer are what holds it in or do I have to remove an inner panel to get to it. Any help will do. Thanks in advance.
