I'm glad it all worked out well for you. Not all that difficult when you break down each task to a separate job.

Hi Kip,
That is a really great way to describe it. Having virtually no machining experience, I was quite overwhelmed when I saw that the hinge was worn (as opposed to simply having to tighten bolts).

Breaking it down into the different steps made a huge difference, and I was actually kind of stunned when it all came back together so quickly...

Thanks,
David

Closing the loop...

Hi All,
One last post to this thread. I had written about replacing the striker plate, but had not done it -- until today. The door closes beautifully and snugly.

Before working on the hinge I had also noticed that there was no way to lock the door from the inside. After searching here on Airforums, I discovered that the "handle" for the KT door hardware was broken off -- inside the locking pin, of course.

The new locking pin "handle" (I know there is a more correct word) arrived from Vintage Trailer, but the thread was the larger of the two sizes that came with Airstreams in those days. A quick tap and die job, and the new "handle" screwed right in.

Of course, while taking the lockset apart the tiny ball came out. Fortunately, it was stuck to grease, as was the super small spring behind it. These components are critical, and essential to the lock's function. There are several good threads on Airforums just about the KT locksets, so I will just leave it at a reminder to take apart the lockset on a clean surface, so no small parts get lost...

Thanks,
David
