Lock for 1979 Airstream

We had a wonderful time on a 30 day trip but then we couldn't get the door open! I got locked in and hubby got locked out! We tried for well over an hour to get it open which included taking screws out of the back screen and hubby having to climb in and out of the window. After getting totally frustrated he broke the door lock open! We need the whole thing! Any ideas???

That original lock has been obsolete for many years.

A lock kit, however, is available.

You might have a keeler lock like the one that's in mine. They are not too complicated to take apart, and a lot of the parts are available on Vintage Trailer Supply. You might consider going with a modern lock. They are sometimes sold in kits intended for Airstream. I fixed my Keeler, but I still think its a piece of garbage.

What ever you do do not discard the old lock or any of the parts. Try these links

Locks & Keys : Out-of-Doors Mart!, More Airstream Parts on-line than anyone!

Inland RV Center Inc.

and see if you can match the lock you have and determine if a repair kit is available. Putting a new updated lock on is not always that easy to do and may require modifications to the door and frame.

A picture of your lack would help identify it as well.
