L-77 Door Handle

When one of the forum members had a problem with the (broken) door handle on her 1960 AS. I said to myself; Self, I'd bet you could make one for her. So here is what I came up with. She suggested that I put out a thread to see if there is any interest. So here it is.I don't know how many trailers out there need a handle.

Being the member with the broken door handle, and having searched in vain for something that would work, you can imagine my delight when TG Twinkie volunteered to make a handle. It is absolutely gorgeous! Solid aluminum and far superior to anything I have seen.

Seems to me he should market it through VTS??? E-bay???? Inland RV???? .... hmmmm????

Door Lock Problem

Anyone who is familiar with the Bargman L-77 Door lock assembly; should be made aware of what I believe to be an inherent fault in this design. In working on making a new door handle for a forum member. I believe I have uncovered the reason for so many handles being broken. If not by someone trying to break into the trailer, it is probably by the owner because they were locked out.
If your handle is the type that lifts up to open the door, it is prone to locking itself.
Within the assembly there is a metal plate/bar that slides up and down to lock the handle in place. This plate/bar is move into and out of the locked position by the key/lock cylinder. The key is rotated in one direction to lock the door and in the opposite to unlock the door. The problem is that when you unlock the door you rotate the key to it's maximum travel to move the locking plate/bar out of the locked position, which is all fine and dandy. But in order to get the key out of the lock you must rotate it to the horizontal position. When you do this, it allows the locking plate/bar to slide down (especially if it is lose); if it slides down far enough due to vibration or just plain gravity, the door is locked.
If you find yourself in this situation, you may be able to put the key in the lock cylinder and unlock the door. But if you don't have a key or the cylinder is inoperable, you've got a problem.
I have posted some photos identifying what I call the locking plate/bar.

If you need a new Bargman L-77 handle...

Take a look at my new, solid aluminum replica of a Bargman L-77 handle! It is beautiful and works perfectly. We are in the process of polishing the trailer and plan to polish the handle to the shine of the trailer. I'm sure it will knock your socks off when it is all done.

The handle is truly a work of art made by a very skilled craftsman.

Want one? Contact TG Twinkie. He's the mastermind behind my have a real handle instead of a stub of a handle that I had.

L-77

i have a different problem, i've found a different variation to the standard L-77. my handle is mounted solid not hinged, and there is a thumb lever you push down on to open the door. so no broken door handle for me, but i'm missing the thumb lever. would love to find some info about this rare model, so to maybe have a new thumb lever made????? i have also started another thread for this topic. thanks!

I am interested!!

I am very interested in getting one of these handles for my 1960 24' Silver Streak. I have been searching high and low for a replacement and can't find one. Then I got a message on my facebook page telling me about your handle. I will try to post pictures of my broken one here...(if I can figure it out)
