These aren't very sophisticated locks. I'd just suck it up and call a locksmith. Let him open everything with a lock on it, then replace them myself with locks purchased from the nearest RV supply place (get them all to match!!!)
Good luck

If you left any unlocked, you can get in through a window by cutting the screen. Otherwise have a locksmith pick the door lock and make you a key.

Got Kids?

Offer each child $10 AND a trip to an Ice Cream store if they can find mommy and daddy's keys. Odds are a little one walked off with them and you'll find them deep in the folds of the couch AFTER you pay to have new ones put in.

The bribe might remind the kids where they were playing with them last.

Just a thought, do you have any friends close by that have a 70's Airstream?
I tested my hatch keys on a friends hatch doors and it worked. If you have lost them, you might have to call the locksmith...
Good luck!

Depending on the year of your trailer, you may only be able to obtain the key blanks from Airstream. I lost the keys to my 2002 trailer and no one carried the blanks because they were specially made by Airstream.

We ended up purchasing two from Airstream (one for a back up) to the tune of $7/each. Once we had the blanks, we had a locksmith cut them for us.

Good luck.

BTW, my husband ended up finding my "lost" keys two years later. They had falled down between the seats of our tow vehicle.

Airstream uses many of the same lock numbers for most of the trailers currently. Maybe possible to see another local 70s unit and see. If not, locksmith call is in your future.

I lost a door key years ago to an SOB. I went to the dealer (SOB was new) and asked for help. He went to his desk, pulled out a bucket of keys and asked how many would I would like. All of the same trailer models used the same key!!!!!!

and while we're on the subject...

when i got my 63 globetrotter, i did not have the keys for the locks on storage compartments..(or the door) i drilled the compartment locks out and removed them. went to my local locksmith shop and bought a matching set of locks that slipped right in. very common cam locks.
pretty cheap fix and very satisfying.

while we are on the subject of locks..
anyone know where i can get a replacement deadbolt for my rig.
i ordered a valterra rv deadbolt, but it doesn't fit without drilling and cutting, which i would like to avoid
i have seen the doorknobs set for sale, but i would like to get a deabolt.
i don't have a key for the top doorknob, but i took it apart and cleaned it, so it works well, just cant lock it.
thanks!

I hear ya! Our 2002 Bambi even has a separate key for the fresh water door!

From an old AS hand....

Hello all -

Got an idea from an 'Old AirStreamin' Friend.... Take a set of keys that are dupes for what you need on the AS - put em on a small ring. Then go to you fridge compartment and reach WAAAYYYY up high in there on the side wall ( you pick which side) - install a small brass hook there. Voila!!! Keys when you need em!

I also did this with my 1 extra car key (to the TV) so if the whole shootin match goes away (robbery or whatever) I can still get outta dodge.... Also hung the house set as that is another potential 'loss' situation - that I am hoping to avoid.

Having em mounted up WAAAAYYYYYY high is to make the low bulb dummies ( the crooks) spend as much time to find them - if indeed they bother. It helps me know that if something horrible happens, at least I'll be able to enter my AS salvation with my key, and sleep the night.

Hope this thread and the comments will get you thinking - there are a zillion different ways to do this and I am sure that they run the gamut from cr*p to sensational. Find what speaks to you and then run with it.

Save yourself the trouble, agravation and not to mention the COST! of having locksmith come out and do your keymaking on site - drives the price up considerably!!!!!

Cutting a key at the shop might run $10 for a RV type key. Others maybe more. If you can, bring them the vrhicle with the 'problem lock' and it will be WAAAAYYYYY cheaper than calling them and having them come to you.

Hope that all this helps in some way!

Axel

Expecting to lose my AS keys someday while camping I purchased a Shurlok ShurLok Key Storage Lock Box,key lock box,key lockbox, key safe, keysafe, key storage box, real estate lockbox and got dupes of all my trailer keys. The Shurlok holds about 6-8 small AS keys.

The dupes of all the AS keys at the local locksmith were $2 each. Ask your local AS dealer where they get keys and you will probably find they are not that hard to find locally or the locksmith will order the blanks for you.

So, for about $30 total I have access to a complete set of keys. You can find the Shurlok on eBay for about $21 including shipping and with the combo lock (you can set it to your favorite 4-digit number) no-one can easily get to your keys.

It worked for me.
