Smile Help needed with deadbolt lock 1991 Excella 34'

Sure would appreciate little help from someone. We recently bought a 1991 34 ft. Excella and have tumbler problems in the deadbolt lock. The deadbolt is in the grab handle. A door bell button is in the lower part of the handle. Keep keeps locking and you have to hold you mouth just right and eventually after 20 tries or so it will come out. Getting too risky to use. Also looks like in time past someone has tried to file on the deadbolt latch as well.

Just curious if someone else has had same problem and what is suggested fix. It appears more of a tumbler problem; Can these be replaced? I cannot even figure out the type lock it is? Thanks in advance for any advice.

The PO of my 1989 Excella had the deadbolt lock repaired at the Airstream factory. The name on the tumbler is Schlage.

Thanks for the info. I am glad to know it is a Schlage; Finally got the key working better so we can lock both the door and dead bolt. I still need to replace it or at least the dead bolt part. Mine has a door bell in it that does not work? Griff.

New cylinder available from Out of Doors Mart, just like orignal, goes right in. Comes with new key. DO NOT REMOVE the key until you have inserted the cylinder into the lock. Key holds tumbler pins in place until insertation. Door bell: could simply be the button. Pry it out, remove 2 small wires, replace it with one from Lowes. It is lighted.Could be the unit itself, under the couch, also replaced with one from Lowes.
10 bucks, 10 minutes, done. There is a small fuse inside the unit . Might check it. John

Thanks John for the last input. I appreciate your and all the other comments. I definitely will check it out when I can get back to the door handle and door bell issue. Griff

More than likely, after 20 years, the weather has ruined the push buttom.

Pop the button out and touch the 2 wires together, and see what happens, or should I say, listen to what happens.

Griff, may have steered you wrong on the deadbolt problem. The tumbler I referred to is actually on the main door. Sorry for the mix up. The door bell info should be correct.
