Help! Locked Out '79 Arogsy

This has been a very bad week!! Now I am locked out of my 79 Argosy. The door worked fine this morning, but tonight I tried to get in and the handle wont catch the latch to open he door. The door is unlocked but acts like something came disconnected inside the assembly. Or maybe a spring broke. All the windows are locked and the only hatch is way too small for me to climb in. I have even raked my brain for kids and can not think of one.

Is there anyway to get the door to open? I was thinking of a crowbar but I dont know how much damage that is going to do.

is that latch original?

the least expensive way to use a CROWBAR...

is breaking a small flat window.

cheers

locked out

It looks from the photo that the lock is partially turned. Where is the key? I would try spraying some "lock ease" in the lock and then trying the key. You may want to push on the door as you do this. My old airstream lock would not unlock unless I pushed on the door as I turned the lock. It was the same way to lock it. If pushing does not work try pulling out a bit.

Oh well, Smashed the front window, made a big mess and took the last 1.5 hours to get the door open from inside. The door was unlocked but the cast iron latch broke off and the helper spring kept it tight in place. It looks as though this was not the first time. A PO must have tried to weld it at some point and the weld broke. I was suppose to be camping this weekend, thank God I was home.

Now time to find a part to fix it or by that super expensive one from ODM

What a Shame

It`s too bad you broke the window. Andy from Inland RV knows a method of getting through the window without any damage. Contact him in case it happens again. He also can now sell you a new window.

Slide Bolt

I just checked Out OF Doors Mart. They carry the slide bolt you are looking for. Part Number 380633 but they are sold out. I have an extra one I could sell you if you can`t find it elsewhere.

It's a shame you had to break your window to get into your camper.

Thought for the future - get AAA. They have lock-out service and will reimburse you to have a locksmith open your camper in the event you are locked out again. Other auto clubs or even your vehicle insurance may also reimburse for this expense.

Wasagachris, My slide is different from that one. mine is a whole plate.

nayl, I dont think a locksmith could do anything the door was unlocked but the actual lock broke in the closed position. The only way to open the door was to disassemble from the inside.

I had to get in tonight so that I could get Pocono Rally tickets out of the trailer to mail them off in the morning. I hope the auto glass place can cut a window into the frame.

thanks for everyone help

Nick this same thing happened to someone at the WDCU installation Rally last October except a lady was locked in not out. Not sure how they replaced the lock for they had a dead bolt to back it up...

Nick Sorry my part won`t fit for you. Do contact Andy at Inland Rv he does have a method of getting into the trailer without causing any damage. He won`t publish it here so thieves can`t find out how to do it. Good luck with the glass shop. I feel your pane.LOL
