front door lock issue

all,

my 68 overlander door knob/latch works fine using the exterior door knob - before shutting the door, i always turn the exterior handle so the protruding latch is fully disengaged inside the door then i shut door and release handle releasing the latch and the latch catches the striker plate fine.

when inside the trailer, when i turn the door knob, it doesn't fully retract the latch and i am unable to latch the door closed?

is there a reason the inside door knob doesn't fully retract the latch?

Sounds like a simple age problem. The mechanism on the inside has mostly worn to a point that it no longer retracts the latch enough.

You or someone with mechanical skills should take the set apart to determine where the ware has taken place and see if material can be welded in place to restore things.

My lockset broke at a point of insufficient material. In order to weld it I had to grind other material out of the way.

I doubt if a locksmith will be able to help you.

I had same problem. Called a lock smith - It was a Bargman L100. Locked my friend in the trailer. He was panicking. Locksmith tried to get him out. Couldn't. Disassembled lock. Fished the lock out. Lost the parts and I am now trying to replace. Advise: Don't loose any of the parts and try to find someone on-line to replace. My story has not ended yet. This has been several years ago. I am having to replace a window they broke out to get him out. I am trying to replace Bargman Lock and deadbolt. Their are several issue now == when originally it was a simple lock problem.

My tale of woe.

I wish you very good luck.

There is a lock kit available that replaces the L-100 and L-200.

Parts for those old locks are no longer available.
