Drove over the keys...

During our last outing, I was all hooked up and ready to go, with my wife to follow later in another vehicle, pulling the boat. I arrived at our destination, only to realize I had left the trailer keys sitting on my rear bumper. Obviously, they didn't make the 100-mile trek. I called my wife on her cell phone, and asked that she bring the spare set, plus look for the set I had lost. She found them about a 1/2 mile down U.S. 41 from our south Georgia home. They had been driven over several times. The problem? That particular set had our only keys to the trailer's exterior locks: side storage compartments, potable water inlet, and battery box. I was able to straighten the keys enough to have duplicates made, with the exception of the one for the potable water lock. An odd little key, and no one could make a duplicate. I was amazed to be able to buy a cam lock at Lowe's that fit perfectly. Will wonders never cease?

I wish I could say the same about my cell phone. Tried hammering out the dents and repairing the hinge, but it never worked again.

Joe how did you remove the old lock from the water filler?
Are you capable of posting a pix of the water filler on your trailer?
Also do you happen to recall the brand or model of the part from Lowe's?

Hooray for your wife.

She found your keys on the highway AND she tows your boat? Day-umm! Does she have a sister? Oh, wait, I'm already married. Never mind.

The compartment doors use very few tumbler settings so the keys are easy to replace if you have the number off the lock or damaged key. Online air stream parts suppliers have them pre-cut. Airstream support also will send you new keys.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but this posting is from 2004. I'm sure they've solved their lock problem by now.
