the door within

My door with in a door has two brackets that catch the lock arm to keep it closed. These are riveted to the outside edge of the door. I have noticed that there is some play or wiggle in the bracket. Is this how it is supposed to be? Is this to create a cam or lever action? I am about to put on new weather stripping and am worried that these brackets should not be loose. I have to press against the door now to get it to latch properly. Will the new weather stripping make it even harder?

That's how mine is

Frank,

That is exactly how mine are on Sophia! You have to caress and push just slightly to get her to do what you want. Once the sliders are engaged, she's nice and tight.
