Door mechanism on 1955 Safari

This is a picture of my 1955 Safari door mechanism, is it a Bargman H20-2 Door Handle?.............thanks

Hi toastie. Yes, you have a Bargman H 20 door handle. A few parts are still available for that mechanism. Check out

PS Don't allow just anyone to try to open that door. You know why, it TURNS but most people try to PULL and end up breaking it off.

Right now, only the handle and the handle spring are available as replacement parts. We're hoping to track down and offer the bezels and the cylinders, too. But they're not available yet. They were used on very few makes of trailer so they're one of the rarest locks. Only the L-77 was used less.

I need a knob and dead bolt like this one for my Liner.

Hi Bill,

That's a pre-H20-2 lockset. The knob is a standard commercial grade aluminum exterior passage-type set. No cylinder. I can't vouch for your backset. That's the critical measurement. Measure from the center of the knob to the edge of the door and I'll see if I can spec something.

The deadbolt is probably a standard single cylinder RV deadbolt. Again, check the backset to be sure. When you buy a deadbolt, make sure it works on 1-5/8" thick doors. that's about what you have, if my memory is correct.

I meant that's a stainless steel passage-type set.

hello --i'm looking for a bargman H20 lock set or just the parts that i need for my 56 bubble. i need the shaft that attatches to the exterior handle connecting to the female internal lock, the hardware that attatches/keeps it on the handle and the handle itself. let me know if you have all or part f this setup. regards--ted

I'd be watching eBay for an H-20, they come up every so often. I've seen them go for $300, but I got a spare for $75, so you never know. Sure seems like one of those parts that it would be really good to have a spare on hand.

do you still have your spare? wanna sell it or part of it? i just need the larger shaft that goes from the exterior handle and into the lock itself--and whatever small pins and things that hold it in. the rest is complete and seems to be functioning ok. i can get a new handle from vintage t-s. regards--ted

I got the handle from Vintage...now I need that connecting rod....do you think a 1/4 in. standard door rod can be modified? Does anyone have the remnants of the broken lock...did not want to got the expense of the new handle.....they would part with? Know where some are?

Just a Q. Are these parts made of bronze? I know of a fantastic foundry that I have used when I need to recreate something. I found a part to a boat that was on a friend's yacht. I begged him to let me borrow it. I had a dozen pieces made. And honestly, I didn't feel it was that expensive...

Steve, Could you take a minute and describe how the H-20 lock handle is "built" up and attached to the lock. I have the lock , the spring, pin and handle. It was missing the rod that goes from the handle to the lock so I made one up from 1/4 inch stock. Now at a loss as how to secure it at the lock end....is it drilled and pinned? Toasties pictures show three washer too. I'm not sure how they fit in there either. Can you help? Thanks.

I took the small panel off the inside of the door with the inner handle removed and this is how the rod is attached on the inside.

Hi, we have a 1955 overlander and it has the Bargman H20-2. Does anyone have success replacing it with something else or using it just as a door handle and using something else as a lock?
