Door Lock replacement?

Hi all!
I have been reading from afar, but now that we have our new 26ft Argosy TT, I can get my hands dirty. When we bought our trailer, I knew that the old door latch was covered up, and "security" was through a externally latched "refrigerator strap" type lock. I drilled out the rivets coving up the old latch, and found a sawed up door handle and cracked lock frame. I assume the old tumbler broke, and the owner sawed out the tumbler, balked at the replacement price, and attached the current outside only lock. My question - I found a old (1975) lock for sale with a "chip" in the frame for $275 - no keys attached. Andy will sell me a new shiny one for $450 or so. Has anybody else had problems with the old locks? Should I avoid future problems by buying new, or save my money with the old? (P.S. - I thank Andy for his service, I just need to save money for a new fridge!)
Thanks!

Many of us have the "old lock problem". I have replaced a full lock set from Andy, the quality was great and bolted right in. If you can find one used that is servicable, I would say go for it.

Replace(d) lock

Well, keep your fingers crossed - I drove 200 miles and got my lock. $225 for the lock and $21 for new keys - I hope it lasts for awhile :> Thanks for the help!
