Door Lock assembly

I have a '77 Argosy Minuet and I'm in need of a new or good used assembly, does anyone know where I may find such a part or one that may be made workable and goodlooking along w/ functional.

Hi! We had to replace our door lock too - someone had taken a crowbar to the old one. Someone then installed a deadbolt to keep the door shut, but it would shake loose while towing. Then the door would then fly open & crash against the side of the trailer. (Why did Airstream use suicide doors?!?!)

We ended up getting an aftermarket lock assembly from Andy at Inland RV. It's not cheap, but a lot less expensive than the Airstream part.

Here are some of the pictures of the replacement...

The round deadbolt to the right of the door is useless. It's the one the previous owner installed. It's made for a house, not a trailer, so it doesn't stay locked when we're towing.

The door handle assembly has two locks - one for the handle and one that's a deadbolt - and they work beautifully. It looks a lot better when the trailer has been washed; I didn't realize how dirty it was when I took those pictures! Time to make the teenager earn his keep, I guess!

I believe that out of doors mart has the Argosy door latches, but I think they are expensive, but for a 30 year old part what do you expect. They also sell just a replacement lock.

Airstream Door Lock 70-77 380193 [380193] - $429.95 : ODMRV , Out-of-Doors Mart

Wow! Looks like I am not alone with the lock problem! Thank you Sharbours for the very nice pics, I own an 83excella with three axles and door lock broke Sunday. I think I can fix it myself thanks to your encouraging pics. BTW are there many 3 axle people out here with airstreams? I can't find any on the net so far? Looking to compare floor plans if possible! Thanks !

Sorry about your door lock! What happened? I'm glad the pictures helped.

I'm sure you'll find some 3 axle friends here, have you checked here in the Airstream Trailer Forums? There are a couple of subforums for Excella trailers, so if you post some pictures there I'm sure you'll get a response pretty quickly!

Happy Camping!

I have an 83 34' limited. I bought it gutted. So I am going to do my own layout. I only have thebathroom and the closet opposite of the bathroom. Everything else is gone. The PO changed the lock to the same one. seems to work .

A little more info about the door lock would help. "Broke" is just a little vague. What broke? If it is the handle, check out this thread: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f453...ing-41311.html—Post 6 show the replacement handle I installed on my 83 Excella.

BTW, 3 is the correct number of axles. You can get an idea of my interior from my photos. Choose "photos" at the top, then "Member's Photos", "V", and "vswingfield", or just start with this photo of the front seating area.

The outer handle broke on the lock, making it useless to me, my son had to climb through the kitchen window(thankfully grandma had it propped open part way) and open door from the inside. The old lock assembly fit on a stainless frame like the one John Burkey makes, not sure who did mine, I have had the trailer a year now. This is my second major repair to my tin teepee, the first being replacing the Thetford for a Ceramic bowl toilette. My trailer is a work in progress really, I bought it last year from a really nice couple from Eastern Washington, they had receipts for everything, and notes on everything. I pulled the couch out, too uncomfortable to sleep on. Two recliners instead, and looking to put new flat screen in six weeks or so. It's just the five year old and I, so making changes that are tailored to us. Not sure how to post pics yet. Plan on changing everything though, one piece at a time. After door done, will work on replacing carpet(too dark for my taste) and sanding the parquet floor and re staining/sealing. Kinda hard to do on a college student budget, but gonna happen! I am going now to go get tools to do the job.
