Thanks for asking and thanks for your helpful PMs. It turned out to be a problem with the striker plate, not the lock itself. The locksmith found one small ball bearing missing in one of the short columns that rests against the backplate. Someone in the distant past must have taken it completely apart, there's no other way it could fall out. So if anyone disassembles an L77, be careful of the springs and ball bearings in there. The backplate slides more smoothly now but it had nothing to do with my problem. Said the lock is in surprisingly good condition, but he did say the cylinder was showing some wear so I've ordered a new one. He told me to check the striker plate and sure enough, I ended up removing a piece of loose metal and loose screw that kept the striker bolt from positioning completely. Now I have normal operation again.

Thanks again to all.
I called up Inland RV and spoke with a very pleasant woman who hooked me up with all that I need for now. My girlfriend and I are both looking forward to giving our AS our own personal touch. I may not post much but I will be lurking and learning on this website. There is quite abit of info available here.
Happy motoring, Ron
