Door latch

I have a 71 sovereign that the main door latch won't lay flat. It works just fine but the door handle will not lay all the way flat. Any suggestions on why this does this or how I could fix it would be great! Thanks

If you have the original latch it is a KT200. The latch and parts are very expensive. You can get parts from Inland RV in California, and maybe Vintage Trailer Supply. Sounds like the lock needs to be lubricated and/or have a spring replaced. Inland RV used to do the repairs. Several screws and bolts hold the lock in the door you could try removing it, clean it as best you can, and silicone the moving parts. Inland RV also sells a replacement lock. This lock requires some modification to the door to make it fit. If you go this route don't throw out the old lock. You could probably sell it for parts for about as much as the replacement.

This is what the latch looks like and that's as far in as it will go. Thank you for the info!

Did you ever get a solution for this. I have the same issue on my Argosy.

The cause is: whoever drilled the hole in the rod that holds the flat handle has put it in such a place that the handle sticks out. You can
A) replace the rod and re-drill the hole
B) use the existing rod and re-drill both the rod and the flat handle in a new location
C) slot the handle so it'll sit flat, though it may "flop" around unless secured.

I just broke the pin that sits in said hole and connects the two pieces together, so I'll see if I can get some photos of mine in the next few days, since the flat part of my handle now flops uselessly.
