Door Knob for 1955 Liner

We have a 1955 30' Liner. The door has been altered....a regular house type doorknob is on it now. Does anyone know what kind of handle/knob should be on it.....inside and out. Thanks....David & Denese

Have you seen the vintage photo archive? You might find a photo there. Good luck!

We have looked at many of the photos of the 50's era but can't see the door handles clearly enough even when magnified. Thanks.

My 1954 Liner has residential type knobs with dead bolts underneath. Only the dead bolts are lockable. Do you have a deadbolt or just the knob?

I think I have what you are looking for on my Safari...I'll take a picture and post it later. In the meantime, look at the link to VTS below.

My handle is intact, but the bezel is broken...most people have the bezel and the handle breaks. The reason being that it "twists" but it looks like it "pulls". When the pot metal gets old, it gets brittle and breaks when someone "pulls" the handle.

New handles are available at Vintage Trailer Supply...but not the bezel, although I know they are working on it and it will be available soon. Although, I believe if the "guts" are missing, you will have to stick with a ordinary knob as the guts are not available unless you find a donor-trailer.

Hope that helps.

Shari

Yep, by the look of the hole, my guess is it was the one I have and linked above. You may be able to come up with a better solution than you have presently, however finding a donor for an original will be tough.

Shari, Does your Safari door have the exta plate on it? Also could you still post pictures of your door inside & out? Thanks David

No, I don't think it has the extra plate...I think that may have been part of your PO's "fix". I'll double check though.

I can/will post pictures, but not until Friday or Saturday...I will not be home before dark tonight and will be out of town on business all day tomrrow. Being that our trailer is new to us, I don't have a library of pics to draw from yet - I need to take them as "specifics" come up.
