Door Hinge for '72
Can anyone tell me where I might find a door hinge for a 1972 Ambassador?
Thanks Grant

They don't exist.
However, you can replace the hinge pin.
You can also reposition the hinge to compensate for wear.

1969 Overlander Door Hinge question
Where can I find instructions for replacing the hingepin and/or adjusting the door hinge on 1969 Overlander.
The door is getting progressively harder to close. I can see wear on the door frame where the screen door is making contact. It was minor, but the as the door gets harder to close, the wear mark on the screen door and the door frame is getting longer.
We're having to pull harder and harder on the door knob to get the door to latch.
Also: there is a difference in the gap from the top to the bottom of the door on the hinge side. It's wider at the top. Almost no gap at the bottom.
Could this be due to the hinge pin wearing out?
thanks,
Jai

Andy--I just checked your website, and didn't find the hinge pin listed. I have a '67 overlander that needs a new pin. Thank you for any info.

Got it, thanks, I will be ordering it, and the lock for my '53, if you have that as well.
The pin in my hinge was hanging out of the bottom of the hinge. I tapped it back in, only to notice that the pin had been repaired at some point. It looks like it is in two pieces, with something added in the middle to hold it in. Can't remember now if it was a rivet, or what.
Do I just "tap in" the new pin?

You should see where a "split pin" was inserted about midway in the hinge, that partially went thru the hinge pin. That split pin holds the hinge pin in place, after you tap it in place and then drill a small hole thru it for the split pin.
Make sense?

Absolutely.....only question is, it sounds like maybe my hinge pin is not broken, but since it was slipping down, and out of the hinge, do you think I just need to put in a new "split pin"?

I have no idea. Is the hinge pin the length of the hinge?

I am just going to order one, and when I install it, I will find out if the other is broken or not. The fact that it is slipping down is enough of an issue for me. Thanks for all the help.

Andy--I just ordered the hinge pin. I didn't find a "split pin" on your parts list. Does it come with one? If not, could you please either add it to my order, or let me know where to get one? Thanks

The split pin must match the hole that's in the hinge body.
I do not know what size that is.
Hardware stores, Home Depot and the like have the split pins.
They are very cheap.

I reamed out the oblong hinge pin holes on mine and installed bronze bushing and a new pin. Any good machine shop should be able to preform the task. See page 15 post 203 of the link below

I received my new hinge pin today (really fast delivery) from Inland RV. I pulled the bottom piece of the old one out, to find that it was definately broken in half, and that is why it had slipped down. When someone had drilled for the split pin, it looks like they drilled way too large a hole, and it wasn't centered, so it cut out about 75% of the hinge pin. I don't know how long it has been in there, broken, but is is obvious that my door has not been hanging properly for a long time. Not sure exactly where I am headed from here, except first to see what size split pins I can get, and to get washers, so that I can get the door to hang level again.
Any suggestions/help would be much appreciated.

Split pins are available in many different sizes.
The one you should use, would fit the body of the hinge. That then is the same size hole that you must drill thru the hinge pin.
Then with the correct split pin, it will hold the hinge firmly to the hinge body.

Thanks Aerowood for your comment using a machine shop to bore and insert bushings. But I can't do that.
I need to find out how to adjust the hinge to compensate for wear.
Anyone know how to do that?
Do you adjust the side of the hinge that bolts to the door or the other side on the body of the trailer? Does the door have to be supported somehow when you loosen the bolts for adjustment?
