damn door

The door on my 67 globetrotter is out of alignment and as a result you have to really (really) slam it to get it to close. This is great for relieving stress caused by my husband, but otherwise it's not good. Anyone know of someone who could fix this in Northern CA? I tried an airplane repair outfit - they kept it for 3 months and then said they didn't have time to work on it. Nice, huh.

Try this link or your local Airstream dealer

http://www.airforums.com/forum...ht=warped+door

Seems some of the folks on the forum have done their own repair to correct their warped door. I also had this problem and my local Airstream dealer (in New Hampshire, sorry) just fixed it on Friday for only $76.00, and my entrance door was bad! It was sagging and the bottom corner stuck out 2 1/2 inches when the door was closed. The door is now in perfect alignment with it's frame.

It might be an easy self-fix. My '68 door closed hard but it turned out to be just a sticky door lock mechanism. Removing it and cleaning it solved the issue.

You might also check the tightness of the hinge bolts. Sometimes adjusting those bolts will alleviate the problem.

Is the door out of shape? Or is it the entry handle? My door lock assembly was getting pretty tough looking, chrome was peeling off and it was not catching very well. I have to push in on the door to get it to latch. It is a bit of a trick to slide the whole thing out but not bad. One thing to remember, if you attempt removal. it may have a screw near the latch. Mine is partially hidden by the rubber seal. Here is a pic of it removed, you can see the screws.
