Are most leaning towards the traditional size that is smaller than the OEM guard requireing 2 extra holes?

Anyone find another source for custom inserts? Hard to believe with all the laser cutters out there there are not more options?

I posted a note on Airstream Addicts on FB, where I occasionally see a post by David Winick, to ask whether he still makes these, but he didn't respond to that query either.

These days, I think David is mostly busy with an interesting hard apple cider project:

Any one have a photo of one of the inserts?
I'm quite certain i could have them made.
They can't be that big a deal.
I have access to all of the machines.

Here you can see photos of the custom one Dave made for us:

http://www.casarocinante.com/Blog-As...late/i-pMvrqTJ

The width is perfect, but the height was a bit less than the original guard that came with the trailer. So, we drilled a couple of new holes and it works fine. Would have preferred a guard that fit the old position precisely. Anyone who decides to make one for themselves might want to note that so they can avoid making the two extra holes.

That would be greatly preferred!! One that easily fits where the original one was. That might also allow for more writing.

I will do some research and get an idea what it would cost to make them.
Can someone tell me how thick the aluminum is that David used?
Thanks

I've no idea on the thickness. It seems strong enough to serve as a guard for the screen, but it is definitely not as substantial as the original Airstream door guard. The custom door guard is also flat, whereas the stock door guard is configured such that it stands a bit farther away from the screen. That's a nice touch.

Here's a door guard for sale, btw: http://www.airstreamsupply.com/scree...nter-683000-02 However, I can see from the extra pair of holes on the doorframe that this guard is also a bit shorter than the standard one. <sigh>

Also, the Airstream Store had at least one custom door guard at the International this year. Maybe if you reach out to them directly, they can sell this one to you: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f311...ml#post1812704

Good hunting!

I have the OEM Jackson Center one but never mounted it since I prefer one that uses the existing holes. It is the right width and thickness. If you are serious about making some I can get it to you if needed. PM if you would like it.

Ok I pmd' you.
Thanks.
One concern is that the holes in the older trailers may have been hand drilled and the spacing may not be the same from trailer to trailer.

Made our own. Eighth inch aluminum cut with a woodworking scroll saw. Went through two dozen blades before I was done.
