The guys that made the doors in this era were very proud of their work for it was very highly skilled compared to some of the other tasks involved it constructing these rigs. Pretty much one guy made every one. Most of the doors were signed as they were put together. This pride in craftsmanship is working in your favor in terms of consistency. I bet it will swap right out and people will not believe your story of how it was done.

thanks for the input I will find out where it was made since the same guy would have to travel a lot to build doors in CA and Ohio!! I see your point about the importance of origin of mfgr. Also it looks like there are only 5 rivets on each hinge holding the small door on. They look like pop rivets, but maybe stainless steel? If anyone knows about these guys dont be shy. I know kind of getting ahead of myself since I dont have the door yet!

door repair

About 15 years ago, the door on my then 66 tradewind opened while traveling and assumed the shape of the side of the trailer in reverse. I found a heiliarc welder who refitted the frame while still attached to the TT. I had already removed the inner skin. Point being, find a good welding shop and most probably your door can be repaired!

Are there different door types on 65 Caravels? Some doors with windows, some doors without? Thanks
