Broken Door Handle

Hello, All!

We have seen a lot of posts discussing broken door handles, but none that seem close enough to our situation. Our '78 Argosy handle went out on us right after we bought it. I think I can see what's wrong with it but I'm not 100% sure. The insides seem to be fine (the key turns the lock and you can feel and hear it clicking/it latches when shut), it truly looks to be exactly what meets the eye: as if the small pins that hold the rod in place have rusted out and no longer move the latch when the handle is pulled. Someone tell me, is this true?

It seems as though I just need to drill out the old rusted pins that are still there but not functioning, and put some new pins in?

We're open to installing a deadbolt if we can get instructions on exactly how.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated! We are moving into it in less than two weeks and will need a short term solution if a permanent one isn't quickly attainable. Thanks in advance!

Is that a Bargman L400? If so I have parts for it and a replacement lock as well.
Can you post a picture to show whole lock? The paddle handle looks like an L400 snd there is a 400 stamped on inside paddle handle.

Broken Door Handle

Looks like a KT lock to me. If the outside handle moves, but the shaft doesn't rotate. The "roll pins" have probably sheared off do to rust. The can be replaced.
More often than not it is the roll pin on the door bolt that shears. When this happens the shaft will rotate with the handle but will not pull the bolt back to open the door.
The entire lock assembly is relatively easy to remove from the door.
You can get roll pins at most auto parts or hardware stores. Just use the right size drift pin to remove the old roll pin from the shaft, the compress the spring and washer assembly and install the new roll pin.
PM me with your email address: I will show you how I installed a dead bolt in my '74 Argosy. Can also provide pics of the KT lock assembly.

Hey montanablue, thanks for responding again. I think I need the two tiny pins that belong in the shaft shown in the first photo of the handle I posted. Do you happen to have those parts, or know how I can find them? I can't find them on any diagram so I can't find a part number.
