Bent strike plate

When we took our maiden voyage a month ago and all went well, except that repeatedly opening and closing the door caused the strike plate to get bent, and not latch
Flash forward to the present, and my somewhat frail father-in-law is living in the trailer in our yard while his house is being finished. We had strong winds last night and when I let the dog out this morning, the trailer door was wide open (because he said it was an easy fix, but hasn't done anything about it, and I am sure the door banging open at high speed wasn't good for the skin).

So. Do we need a special replacement for this, and is it possible (or necessary) to reinforce it behind, so it doesn't bend again?

The correct striker plate, is cast metal.

It's also supposed to be riveted in place, therefore can't come loose, or bend.

Not a hardware store item.

I need to order an air conditioning shroud too, and I was waiting to see if this was another item I might need to order too from you, first.

I now suspect that my bent plate is aftermarket (and incorrect), because it is just a regular flat plate with no reinforcement. Since the trailer is going to be stationary for awhile yet, we figured there was no hurry - the wind proved us wrong. Luckily it didn't blow open hard enough to damage the skin.

PS What type of rivet? Olympic okay, or something else? Since it is riveted in place, I don't suppose it can be adjusted to the door once it is in place. How does one install it correctly from the get-go, so it works properly?

4 each # 48 pop rivets are OK.

Where to place is the key. First, center it vertically. Second, measure the distance from the outer edge of the door to the outer edge of the striker bolt.

Set the striker pocket opening, back, that same dimension.

The air conditioner, which we had charged lasst month, isn't cooling again. When we had it charged, the guy said he suspected a leak, but couldn't find it. They can't come out again until the 24th, and Dad is living in it, so we can't tow it into town without inconveniencing him (he only sleeps in it, and nights are still cool enough for that). I am putting the shroud order, and therefore the plate order, on hold until we know whether the AC is fixable or needs replaced.

I'd hate to get a shroud and then have to replace the AC unit.

Not much of an AC man if he can't find a leak. Electronic sniffers do that in a heartbeat.

If you can't bring the trailer in, then take the AC off, and bring it in.

Seldom, is it "not" possible to correct the older units.

That is very nice Andy, and I need one, so how come you will not sell me just the plate, but insist that I buy the whole lock assembly???

The plate is available separately, as it does not come with a lock.
